Product: HP Envey 17-j150 Notebook, running Win 8.1 update, Part# E8A19UA
There have been 2 Bios Updates from HP since I bought my Laptop and in both cases the same problems occurred afterwards.
a) When playing any of the games I had previously downloaded from the Windows Store, they (depending on the game) either freeze the screen or completely lock up the PC. While troubleshooting another issue, I happened to stumble on the fact that in the Nvidia Control Panel one of the games which was affiliated with the Nvidia Card previously was no longer listed there. When I added it back onto the "Run with Nvidia GeForce GT740M" list, the game ran fine, so I added the other games (I don't know if they were there before or not) and in all cases problem was resolved! Note: Games/Apps I installed from disc or other sites were not affected.
b) Windows Live Tiles don't update (I waited several hours, but no luck, so I checked the settings and "update live tiles" was selected, but nothing was happenning. The next day still no change so I went in and deselected update, exited and then reselected it, and that tile started working. Had to do this with all my live tiles!
c) After the Bios Update Restart the "restart" selection available on the Start Screen doesn't restart the PC. It shuts down OK, but it never restarts. I just get a black screen and nothing happens, and have to reboot by holding the start Switch/button down for 10 seconds. Strangely, in both Bios Update cases there were several Windows Updates a few days later, and after the Windows Update Restart, the Start Screen "restart" was working again ....... Go Figure!
So unless someone can assure me this won't happen again, I won't be installing any future HP Bios Updates.
