Yet another HP Pavilion dv6 blank/black screen problem!

My 4-year old (!) and well looked after Pavilion dv6 3045sa decided to give up the ghost two days ago and research on here and other forums reveals a rather familiar problem of a frozen system and screen. I've tried the recommended hard reset, but nothing's changed. The notebook is working because the normal boot up lights are on and I can hear the hard drive disc spinning; I get any combination of Caps Lock lights from nothing to blinking for two secs then pause, to permanently on. The notebook has now gone to a local pc repairman, but he can't fix it either having done a number of other things including reseating the memory, checking the hard drive, graphics card etc. The notebook screen is still blank. Sending it away to be looked at isn't cost-effective, so I'm resigned to having to look for a replacement (and probably not HP either). Before I do this, can anyone based on their own experiences think of one last solution that we may have missed and might work? Just to repeat that I feel we've probably exhausted all likely scenarios (I've spent ages looking at similar posts on HP forums, some of which have been solvable) but one last try just might be worthwhile.
Have to say I'm bitterly disappointed at what's happened after just four years of moderate use, but maybe I got a dud machine.
Kind regards,
Andy (Personal information removed)
