I'm repairing this laptop for a college student who dropped the laptop on the back left corner. I replaced all broken and/or damaged hardware items, but the laptop will not power up. It would not power up when she first brought it to me so it has to be a result of her dropping it. I did some research and tried all basic troubleshooting. I tried doing a hard reset, inspected the power button assembly, replaced the power button assembly with a brand new one, detached and inspected the power port assembly, confirmed that the magnet is in the lid cover, etc... Right now the laptop does not have the power cord or the battery attached. No peripherals are attached. I just finished trying another hard rest, hold the power button down for over aminute this time. No go. I tested the power adapter and power source, all check out fine. I tried using a universal power adapter.
When the power adapter is connected and plugged in the whote light at the charging port is on. When I press the power button the wireless network light on the F12 button illuminates briefly (1 sec) then shuts off. No expected activity or noise happens indicating that it's powering up.
Beased on my research I suspected it's a problem with the lid switch but I don't know what else to do or try. I'm a little confused on how the lid switch could be the problem considering the lid is open when trying to power on. Does the sensor think the lid is closed? Also, where is the sensor? My research leads me to believe that it's on the power button board. But I don't know for sure.
Any ideas?
THANKS in advance!
