hi. hp was good enough to announce a new rom update with enhanced UEFI security fixes. in that announcement they recommended updating it, and they provided a 'nice' link for my model, 8440p. Unfortunately, when I go there I can only get f.60 not f.61. What gives? why send me email and dangle this in front of me only to dissappoint with vaporware?
so, i was happily using this computer dualbooting Arch Linux and Windows 10 (UEFI Secure Boot disabled) but then, i saw a BIOS update revision f.35 something. and before i updated, i was on f.24 . now after updating bios, Linux hangs, but windows runs quite fine. acpi=off makes linux turn on, but many other issues have popped up. and acpi=ht doesnt work, but all that is for another day.
the thing is, i thought i can go on the hp driver website, and redownload f.24 and install (downgrade) now, i download the driver (only available if os is windows 8 ) but openign installer out of three options (update bios, copy USB , and copy image) update is greyed out. it says
"The bios update is not compatible with the device"
so i tryed to make bios usb. turn of laptop and do WINDOWS KEY + B + power, and then capslock light starts flashing, but nothing more. then i try F2 on boot and firmware management, and try updating bios/ restoring BIOS but it say signature is invalid.
WHAT DO I DO??! i want linux!!! help please!! thank you
Updating my OS to Windows 10, the new BIOS Update (F.70) was offered on HP Driver Download, so I installed it and updated my bios to F.70
Now the notebook power is he definition of "Problem" and "Malfunction" since the update:
- It shuts down a couple of times before the Windows is completely loaded, 5-10 seconds after start up. I must turn it on again "at least" 3 times until the windows is loaded.
-Most of the times it doesn't wake up after Standby.
-Sometimes, restart faces problem and not starting after shutdown.
Unfortunately It's not possible to instal a previous version (e.g F.67 which worked perfectly) on bios.
What can I do?
I have an HP Elitebook 8560p with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit OS however when i tried to upgrade it to Windows 8.1, it won't detect the hard drive to install the new OS and it is aking for drivers or to load drivers. I think the drivers for the hard drive had been corrupted or damaged. I tried to setup the BIOS howver it is asking for Admin password which in the first place i did not setup.How can i fix this issue and used my HP laptop again, Can you kindly assist or enlightened me. Hi, so I bought my laptop with Windows 8.1 installed. I then upgraded to Windows 10 on lauch day before upgrading my HDD to a SSD. After a while my laptop just started freezing randomly and all I can do then is pull out the battery. I have contacted Microsoft many times about this issue and have tried all troubleshooting steps but none have worked. I have also done a clean install of Windows 10, the problem persists. Now, I reckon it's a hardware problem. The SSD is a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB. First of all, is that SSD compatible with my laptop (HP Notebook R160SA Energy Star)? If so, what else could be the problem. Can't do a CHKDSK /F to repair, because it is always allocated to Windows. Any way to log into non-Windows environment (i.e. MSDOS) to fix>

Im trying to enter to the BIOs setup menu on HP Notebook ba019nr to change the boot sequence. I already tried with Esc, F2, F6, F10 and others several keys. which key should I use?
My 13-g110dx won't recover, restore.... I was able to run UEFI and received Short DST Failure - ID GU0HXS-6R18AB-QFPJXF-60UT03. I can occasstionally get to the x:, but I have found no fix. Based on other forums, I assume the ssd is failing and needs replacement. I wanted to confirm that is accurate, and get steps required beyond physical replacement of the sdd drive to get the pc working.
SO heres the deal i just erased my entire disk in order to format the computer. Then i tried to go to BIOS to change boot order as Admin but i didnt have the password. So i logged in as guest (where everything was unlocked) and set my admin password... or so i tought.
Now i cant login as a guest anymore also my admin password dosent work anymore, but i have a new user available that can log in with password that i set in when i was logged in as guest but everything is grayed out.
I tried to put out battery but it dosent work if i write the wrong password 3 times all i can do is shut down the computer..
Now i ran out of ideas and also google isnt helping at all, so any advices would be greatly appreciated
I got this HP DV8000 from my friend beacuse he didnt need those PC's so when i plugged it in and turned it on i got this vertical line stuff, the color changes as i leave it running longer. Then i plugged it in the D-SUB/VGA monitor and i see this Intel UNDI screen and it keeps on flashing. And when i remove the CMOS battery it just doesn't show anything. After 30sec i putted the CMOS back on and it tells i need to change the bios settings. After saving, it just does the same thing.
The laptop has Windows 10 on it, and I've been trying to reinstall the OS as the filesystem had become corrupt. I ran checkdisk, and it fixed all the errors that it had found. It also had unmounted the drive making the OS no longer bootable. I tried to recover the OS, but unknwon to me there was a recovery partition on the hard drive. The computer read this partiton, and not the revcovery disk I had made on a USB stick. The laptop tried to recover Windows 8.1. So, now I'm trying to reinstall Windows 10 from an ISO that I got from Microsoft. Yet, the computer will not boot to USB no matter what I try. I know the USB drive works as I reinstalled Windows 10 on another laptop I was working on. My personal laptop picks up the USB stick. The HP however doesn't even see it as an option when I try to pull up the boot order. What is wrong, and how do I fix it?
I cannot get my Elitebook 2570p to boot from the optical drive.Trying to re-install the OS.I enter the BIOS and click on boot options but the optical drive is not among the options.

My laptop is prone to overheating. I read online that this can be fixed by disassembling and cleaning the laptop. I did so, then carefully reassembled it, and now it makes a beeping sound when I power it on. It beeps 5 times in 3 sets. The beeps are in the pattern of 3 long beeps and 2 short beeps. After it does this 3 times, the sound goes away and leaves only a black screen, a constantly beeping Caps Lock (once every 4-5 seconds) and a constant light on the airplane mode button and the AC adapter LED appears to be normal.
I tried reseating the clock battery, Hard Drive and RAM card many times and also hard resetting. I also could not find any relevant posts related to my issue, and the few that dealt with the same beep code did not provide helpful solutions. I should also note my laptop is very old, but has been working fine (besides the overheating) up until I disassembled it.

HP just released version 6.1.2.0 of HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for its UEFI BIOS.
I was wondering if there's a way to install it on my notebook, which is not currently running Windows.
After all, it seems quite questionable that an OS-independent utility like this, which installs on the UEFI BIOS, requires the use of a Windows setup program as the only install option.
