BSOD after bios flash

Hi All,

I am using a HP DV3145 DX laptop, operating system is win 7 home basic (It came with the Laptop).

A couple days ago my screen started to behave erratically. The lower part of the screen went fuzzy, and was unreadable. So I updated the Bios using the HP support assistant.

After I flashed the bios, I could login to the windows, but every time I login to the windows it crashed (BSOD) after 30-60 seconds.

I could login to the machine using safe mode

This is what I did

1. Logged in using safe mode and disabled every startup program (used Msconfig), except microsoft services. This did not help.

2. enabled the HP_tools drive using disk management and I see the Bios, Bios_new folder is there.

Now what should be my next step? I want to keep factory reset as my last option, I have a lot of settings, digital certificates, phone backups in this machine, those are important for my work.

I am thinking of flashing the Bios to the older version to see if this helps. Now, I do not consider myself a very advanced user. So if anybody can tell me how to flash the bios to older version, I will be greatful.

I would also love to hear any other suggestion others may have.

*PS: I can not update windows drivers (I updated a month ago), because the 3G dongle I use is not getting recognized in safe mode.

Thanks in advance,

Saswata
