Hi,
Without making any memorable changes or updates, I suddenly found that when I started my laptop and opened any type of program, the laptop screen started continuously looping between the desktop view and a blank purple background (like behind the start menu screen). Each screen loads for about a second and then it switches! It's impossible to do anything. If I open task manager I can see lots of processes starting involving Thumbnail Handler Exception - more and more of these processes open.
Eventually I restarted the laptop and opened in 'safe mode with networking' and the problem goes.
I've tried clean booting the machine and running antivirus software, which finds nothing.
I've read other forums, which suggest that switching off the mousepad setting for swiping multiple fingers that "switch apps" could fix it. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/windows-8-programs-and-start-menu-keep-randomly/83aca608-61b7-47f7-a8da-b45a319ed7fb?page=1
However, when I get to Control Panel, I don't have any Mouse Control Panel settings. I get an error box saying:
An unexpected error occurred while linking to the Mouse Control Panel (0x80004005L)
I have no idea what to do next, but at the moment I cannot use this laptop in normal mode. Please help!
Thanks
Cheryl
