My father has a HP Pavilion G6 notebook that is just out of warranty, figures! He was watching a movie from DVD and paused it. Upon return the screen was blank. He attempted to reboot but the screen never indicates the windows start up process. Also the screen flashed every ~3 seconds with a text at the bottom left corner which says; (Press the "ESC" key for Start Up Menu). After finally writing down what the statement says between the 3 second flashes, I attempted the recommended action. I was able to reach the Start Menu;
F1 System Inf.
F2 System Diagnostics
F9 Boot Device Options
F10 Bios Setup
F11 System Recovery
From there I ran the F2 System Diagnostics. All tests reflect PASSED, to include the memory and Hard Drive (ran both "Short" and "Long" HD tests). This is conflicting with the problem; like the hard drive is not allowing access to the Operating system. Results at boot up attempts remained the same.
Being that the NOTEBOOK did not come with the CD ROMs for the Operation System and my father never made the recovery CDs I attempted to use the recovery disk of a different HP PC, ONLY to see if the PC would begin a Boot-Up from DVD source. I accessed the "Start Up Menu" again and selected F9 Boot Device Option and started boot up from DVD with the Recovery disk of a different PC. The PC booted up and started a recovery process but then, as expected, reports the loaded DVD is a recovery disk for a different platform. I assume this confirms the motherboard, bios, memory, display, ....etc. is working ok.
Being that the recovery software is now provided on the protected partition of the Hard Drive, I attempted to initiate a System Recovery (F11) via the Start Up Menu. But the system just returns to the initial fault of the a blank screen with the FLASHING (Press the "ESC" key for Start Up Menu). SO I cannot attempt a System Recovery since NO Recovery Disks were ever made and the Hard Drive seems inaccessible, Although the System Diagnostics (F2 reflects the HARD DRIVE PASSESS all tests.
HELP! Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
