Hi All,
Recently, my HP G62 laptop has begun to crash whenever I put a moderate amount of strain on it. I've had it crash while having more than one tab of vidoes open at once, using Vectorworks (Drafting Program), and while playing a number of video games. I've been assuming that it had something to do with my graphics card, but I guess all of these programs could put a general strain on my laptop. I can do basic things, like use the internet and Microsoft Word, and even watch a video on Youtbe wihtout my laptop crashing.
Known issues with my machine include: A problem with my grahpics card (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/Video-Card-Fried/m-p/2633071), overheating in general, and possibly a bad battery (I've checked the battery through software on the computer, and it says that its okay, but I think otherwise).
I've found that this issue comes in two types, a major failure and a minor failure. A minor failure ussually consists of the laptop freezing then the screen going out for a second, followed by a message saying somehting allong the lines of a graphics driver failure. This can happen two or three times in a row. It sometimes leads to a major failure. A major failure consists of a crash and a blue screen, most of the time without any warning. Sometimes the HP logo pops up after that and my computer simply restarts. But ussually, it doesn't. When I try to power it back on, the power button lights up and the computer makes all of the whizzing sounds (probably associated with my overheating problem) that it makes when it starts up, but nothing happens. The screen is blank, and it doens't seem like the computer fully boots up. I only have to hit the power button and the whole thing powers down, unlike how you ussually have to hold for a second it to do a hard power down. Sometimes, I only have to try to start it once or twice, but sometimes it can take up to a day. I've tried all different things to get it to start: leaving it pluged in, unplugging it and startign it, letting the battery drain, leaving it run in the semi-on state, leaving it off over night. You name it, I've tried it. It seems that none of these make a difference, that it just boots up correctly when it wants to. Regardless, it seems like the fan goes and goes and outputs a lot of heat.
Not sure if this is helpful, but here's a screenshot of the error reporting that Windows gives me:
My drivers are all up to date and I don't think my machine has undergone any trauma lately, although it does come with me on my daily commute someitmes. Any thoughts? I'd really like to figure out what's crippling my laptop on what seems like a more frequent basis.
