I was given a HP Pavilion dv7-dv7-4177nr laptop to work on. The reported problem was intermitten display function. Obviously the laptop had been dropped and the hinge was no longer secured on the left bottom as you face the display.
When I power on the laptop, there is no beep, nothing displays on the internal monitor nor on an external monitor if connected. The LED on the power button glows steady white, the power and disk activity LEDs on the right side are on steady. On the keyboard the f12 key has a stedy amber LED on and the Caps Lock key blinks white about every three seconds. No other keyboard keys light or blink, including the Num Lock.
Is this blink on the caps lock key a blink code indicating a bad CPU? Everywhere I've seen blink codes it mentions the caps lock and num lock both blinking and that isn't the case here.
Thanks for any enlightenment.
