Hey everybody,
I've run into an issue and I'd appreciate all feedback anyone can give me.
Last year July 2013 I picked up an HP ENVY 4-1995ca laptop new from London Drugs. I was pleased with the specs for the price I paid but within a few weeks it was having issues. First the sound card acted up, glitching during audio and stalling. Then soon after I started having general hard drive problems with drive corruption and other issues. I was able to temporarily stave off the issues by doing factory resets but eventually the problems became so consistent that I contacted HP support.
HP support was very helpful and offered to repair the laptop immediately. They sent me a box, I sent away the computer and recieved it back all within a 2 week span with all issues visibly resolved. I was very impressed and grateful with the level of service.
Unfortunately as of last week (August 15, 2014) I've started experienceing hard drive issues again. I tried a factory reset but now the computer doesn't work at all. It starts up to an illuminated blank screen and nothing else. I can access the system BIOS (ESC and then F2 upon start up), but none of the other recovery tools, so I feel there is nothing I can do about the situation without professional help or tools.
So here's my question:
My warranty is expired as of July 11, 2014. Without it I can't livechat with HP support and it says calling the help line may require a fee. Fair is fair in my book as far as the warranty being expired, but I feel my current issue may be related to the previous one for which I was under warranty and should have been resolved. Given the possible connection and the fact that i'm only 1 month out of warranty, is there an avenue to take this up with HP?
An additonal question
Ideally I'd like to get a free repair from HP, but I have to consider alternatives. I could get a new low-end laptop for about $400, but it would be lower specs than my envy. I could also a new hard drive and have the partition copied from my old one but that would cost about $200+ because I would have to get it professional done since I don't have the tools. The final option is to pay HP for repairs but I can't find much price information online and given what happened last time I'm a bit wary of dropping money on it.
Thanks for taking the time to read, and I would appreciate any help you can offer.
