Compaq presario cq57-475sa hard disk short dst fail

My compaq presario cq57-475sa keep's freezing ,slow running on start up ect.

I ran a diagnostics & came up with "hard disk short dst fail".

I read it could be the hard drive or a corrupt program.

I rebooted it back to shop setting which solved the problem ,but after awhile it says hard disk short dst fail.

So how can i find out if its a corrupt program or hard drive problem ?.

If its the hard drive i have seen a replacement for £40 for a 500gb hard drive.

But how can i tell if hard drive looking at is the right one for this laptop.

I use my laptop for downloading films & playing a online game called "WORLD OF TANK'S".

Im not sure if the game is the problem.
