I have a HP DV5t-1000 4gb RAM 320GB HD - Vista Home Pre
After a year, Wifi started created problem...limited connectivity only...same network was able to connect all year long..Still have not resolved the issue - maybe coz i have inbuilt modem apart from WLAN. Under device manager its shows broadcom adapter b/g -
I have to go to my window to connect to my neighbor's open Wifi - once i connect to their open wifi - I can connect to my secured wifi and most of times it stays until I reboot.
First the Webcam Stopped working and I constantly keep getting push notifications that one of the USB device is not working..Looked up online on youtube to open the frame and fix small white connector next to webcam. - worked well for couple of days. Same issue again - pressing hard on next to webcam where the connector is located solves the issue sometimes.
Now, windows failed to start mentioning some hardware changes..tried to fix in safe mode..works good in safe mode..but overall speed is compromized.. fixed issues chk dsk etc...was able to run windows normally...
After, couple of days..it fails again..mouse cursor keeps on processing and nothing happens( I can move the pointer but cannot click on anything)...this time had a back-up and factory restored vista...downloaded all updates upto SP2- worked fine for couple of days and then gives ocassional freezes..have to shut down by pressing power button several times...
Ran hard drive test..passes SMART Test and short test.. long test freezes while checking free memory..It moves but takes 15/20 minutes after initial cells are speedily checked - only long test freezes.
Being a HP Fan I already ordered a brand new 17-t configured to high end.. But I want to fix my old DV5t 1000 for back-up. Please address solutions for:
1) WLAN limited connectivity
2) Webcam not working - USB device not connected issue - Many users have this problem - no fix
3) Freezes and pointer keeps on processing (can move the pointer but cannot do anything) even after factory restored. - replacing HDD will solve (almost 5 yrs old - 320GB) or it's something to do with Vista (I know Vista is crap - using Service Pack 2 on Vista). I was able to take the HDD out for backing up on another pc - I didn't noticed any data corrupted - no uncommon sound noticed while HDD was out and running. What could be the issue?
