Hi, I was given a computer by my friend to see if I could fix it. It had an issue of the Bios password blocking boot up. I found out how to get the code that unlocks it and did so, however, Once the password screen went down I was met with a black screen. It only had 1 option available which was
F1.... System Information
I hit F1 and a variety of other keys but nothing happend.
I tried the "hard reset" of holding power down for 30 seconds unplugging everything and then holding power down again for 30 seconds and finally rebooting after reconnecting everything and it still was the same.
The CD-ROM opens fine, and the fan spins at a variety of speeds, but I got nothing past that screen.
I did find a Windows 7 Install CD in the disc tray. I am not sure if someone tried to install windows 7 on the laptop (which came with windows 8)
I had heard of more integration with the bios so it could possibly be related ( you would know better than I)
The Laptop showed evidence of the HD bay being opened previously, and I see the circular battery is a bit smudged.
( I assume someone tried to remove it to reset the bios password)
It looked to be snuggly in there however.
There is a possibility of a stuck key of some sort. I am not positive but the Laptop had 3-4 beeps a few times when we booted it up to the previous password screen. (did not happen every time, I am not sure if a locked key would cause the beeping)
Again, as stated in the "Subject" field the model is "HP2000-2b09WM"
The Bios would seem to be a version of "InsydeH20" as that was the type of unlock code I used.
I do not know if I have any more info which might be beneficial except that I did try booting with the cord and without the battery. (The locking mechanism is broken on the laptop apparently but the battery still makes contact and powers the laptop)
