Hi There,
Apologies if this is the wrong forum - Please move the thread if it's incorrect :-)
I have a Compaq Presario C740EM (C700 Series) Laptop which has an issue that it randomly switches off without warning.
This happens whether you're in the BIOS from the F10 (Or F9 - can't remember from memory) or booting windows. No errors or anything, machine just loses power completely and switches off.
This happens whether on Battery, AC with Battery Connected and AC without Battery Connected.
I intially thought this was down to overheating issues so I took the machine apart to clean the Fan and Heatsink etc - In the end I replaced the fan and heatsink as the fan motor had actually burnt out where there was so much dust and it had got jammed.
However despite the new fan and heatsink, a good clean of dust I am now experiencing this random cut out issue with the system still.
I am leaning towards a Motherboard Replacement now sadly, But I wanted to ask if there is anything else I could considering checking before breaking the news to the client that the PC needed more than a hard drive replaced (This lost it's MBR Record - Managed to recover the data but replaced the drive as a precaution on customer request)
Is there anything else I could try swapping out before biting the bullet for a Motherboard Replacement?
Thanks for your help :-)
Dominic :-)
