I bought this laptop at a local Staples store for my son to take to college. Since day one we had nothing but issues. I bought the 3 year extended warranty at the store which expired last August. We went through two hard drives and a motherboard and several other repairs starting right out of the gate. I am so unhappy with my purchase and so discouraged. My son is miles and miles away at school and needed this laptop, but sent it to us each time so we could send it into the warranty company only to get it back in the same or worse condition. He had to work around the hours of the computer lab on campus and his busy schedule of work, sports and classes just to get his work done.
He brought it home with him for spring break and he said he hasn't used it in months because it is just too slow. I opened it and he isn't kidding. I thought it was frozen, but it wasn't. I ran some tests and the hard drive can't be found, the system throws up error messages and chkdsk only runs part of the way through even leaving it on overnight. After at least 2 hard drive replacements and a new motherboard, plus a host of other issues- I am left with a very bad impression of HP products. I wasted money on a much needed piece of technology. Everyone said not to buy it, go with a different company but I didn't listen and I wish I had.
This laptop didn't work correctly from the beginning, but we figured the warranty company would fix it. They couldn't. and said that we would probably need to get a replacement after they had it a few times. HP should have stepped up to replace it. I have call and repair records that show the history of repairs on this laptop. I would like to see HP step up and repair or replace this machine with the same model. I would like to know if others have had the same problem with this particular laptop. If anyone knows of a repair that could get it working the way it should, please reach out to us. Otherwise, it is off to get another computer for him that is a non-HP model. Thanks!
