Hi,
I lost the hidden Win 7 pro 64 bits start partition of my Elitebook 840 G2 and now my laptop won't boot from its SSD. I get a bootmgr missing error.
1) I tried to repair Win 7 with the same HP DVD I used to install my G2 but I get an error (different version). Guess it's because I'd applied the latest updates to Win 7 in the meantime. So I could only have done a clean install with this HP DVD.
2) I have a very recent system backup made with Acronis WD Edition but it didn't pick up the hidden partition. So if I recover from it, my SSD won't boot either (I tried it on an empty HD). Is there any way to rebuild this partition before recovering the backed-up system?
3) As last option, I reluctantly tried to update my SSD system to Win 10 pro 64 bits but again I could only do a clean install since upgrade seems to require a bootable system.
So what can I do to try and boot from my current Win 7 install. Even temporarily before I have time to do a clean update to Win 10 pro 64 bits. I have a data backup but forgot to export my neatly sorted out 1000+ bookmarks which I'd very much like to recoup. I also fear that my banking application might not be compatible with Win 10 and I have to send payments by March 31st at the latest.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
