Have been having problems with booting my HP Pavilion DV4, windows 7. The fan became inoperational a few days ago, haven't fixed it yet but I stayed away from running any videos or running more then one program at a time, basically just checking email, never got hot to the touch. Somehow my son got into task manager and ended some processes shortly after, not sure which ones (he's 2 years old).
Now when I try to boot it up, the error message comes up only once, hit enter to continue, then a black screen comes up, then it goes completely dark and keeps cycling. If I hit "escape" at the right time I can pull up bios setting, system recovery (f11, doesn't do anything), the diagnostic checks, etc. The only diagnostic check that comes negative is for the battery which seems to work ok.
Quickweb works great, can not pull up windows. I've talked to tech support they say to not even bother with the recovery discs?
