Pavilion g6 can't boot up ... black screen of death

Hello,

I have a Pavilion g6 2240-CA which will not boot up.  I get the "HP" symbol and a message about "Preparing Automatic Repair" ... then it goes into the black screen of death.

It runs Windows 8 (almost sure its 64bit version), has system ID 1849 and has ATA ST9500325AS Hard Drive.

I ran the diagnostic check for Memory (Extensive) and HardDrive.  The memory test passed the HD failed.  More specifically the "HD SMART Check" Passed and the "HD Short DST Check" Failed with the following details:

Failure ID:  Q4M8GW-6HV71A-MFPWW1-60WV03

Product ID:  C2N57UA#ABL
