G6-1013sa Blank Screen on Startup GPU Fault

Have had an issue for a while now where laptop appears to power on (power button led on, hear fans) but screen remains blank & nothing further happens - no flash of capslock light. Through research, found a solution of opening laptop up & applying power to motherboard with everything else (including processor) disconnected, effectively cooking the graphics chip. Once this chip gets hot, pressure can be applied to reseat it & on re-assembly, everything works again.

Bizarre fix but seems to be only temporary as fault returns some days later & whole process has to be repeated. Does anyone know more about this particular problem or a more permanent solution?

This would seem to be some kind of a design flaw - surely HP should do something about it, considering the number of people that seem to be having similar issues.
