Random Freezing

After previously instaling the Windows 8.1 preview, I had a lot of problems. This involved basically the machine freezing up and not doing anything more. It normally let you do one "action" like opening a tab, clicking an icon but then nothing happened after that. Webpages never loaded and eventually the machine completely locked up and the only way to get out of this was a long press on the power key.
I fixed this by installing the Intel Rapid Store drivers.
SP58398 - this package doesn't work on Windows 8.1
SP59743 - this package seems to be an earlier version than the built-in drivers.
I've tried instaling the above package and overwriting the installed drivers, so hopefully this will solve problems.

HP- Why isn't this working seemlessly? The later version is only found in a forum post and isn't available through the normal download page for the DV7.
Intel 4000 Driver downloads

Windows 8.1 constantly wants me to update my Intel 4000 drivers, but with a version released in October 2013 and without any indication on what the version number is! Some reason this is considered an "important" update.
I currently have 9.18.10.3257 / 15.28.20.64.3347 installed from Intel. I've seen since that there is 15.33.8.64.3345 available, which I've installed. But Windows Update won't tell me what version it wants to install.
The version on the HP website is much lower than either of the above.
Does HP know what version they've pushed to Windows update?
