I bought a HP Envy Pavilion Laptop and it worked perfectly up until a BIOS upgrade about 6 months ago.
Just before the BIOS upgrade I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 and aside froma few software issues (non-OS related) the laptop continued working fine.
After the BIOS upgrade, my laptop no longer powers completely down on shutdown, the power button is still lit up and the battery charge is being consumed. I have to hold the power button down to force it to power down.
I have checked power settings both in control panel and powercfg and they all show that the machine should shutdown.
Is there a new definition where shutdown means sleep????
Help please
