I have to turn my computer on twice

A few days ago, I bought a new SSD harddrive. It was an Samsung 840 EVO 120g SSD internal for my laptop. I have an HP Pavilion dv7 4285dx laptop. On my previous hard drive I have windows 7 and on the new one, I updated it to windows 8.1. Now that I have made these upgrades, my compter won't seem to boot properly. When I push the power button on, the HP logo comes up, as does the windows logo, but then it goes black. Everything seems like it's on; the power light is on, the fan is running. But it jusrt stays black. But when I give it a hard restart by holding down the power button, and turn it on immediately after, it boots up clean. I'm not sure as to why this is happening. I've scowered the internet for a few days trying to find soemthing but to no avail.

My specs are:

Processor: Intel Core i5 CPU M 460 @ 2.53GHz

RAM: 6 GB

Windows 8.1 PRO 64 Bit operating system

Any thoughts?
