Well like the title says I have 2 HP pavilion dv7's. They have very similar problems.
1 is the Hp Pavilion dv7-3173nr & The other 1 is Hp pavilion dv7 with beats audio. I cant turn it on at the moment to see the number.
I'm currently on the 3173nr. The fan was working until about 2 months ago but it still was overheating. I bought the laptop cleaner to clean the dust out. The laptop still kept overheating. The battery is shot I guess so fi I don't connect it to a charger, it wont come on. Often when I start up this laptop .. the lights come on but the display doesn't. I read on these forums somewhere that some guy pushed down the keyboard before pressing the power button & it came on. It worked for me as well but I have to do that every time.
The other dv7 has really similar problems. 1 day the fan was working .. next day it stopped. Stopped working without warning .. I used laptop cleaner on this 1 as well. Cleaned all the dust out, fan still doesn't work! Whenever I wanna use these laptops, I have to put them on top of this big fan I have in my room. It's called a LAPtop and I cant even use it on my lap. "It'll block the vents". Now this 1 has a bigger problem. Sometimes it's in eternal sleep mode. Nothing I do can wake it up. It wakes up when it feels like waking up. Sometimes it's like this for weeks. People said I should let it overheat so it cuts off & it'll melt the solders blah blah. I think that'll do even more damage.
I've spoke to a lot of PC repair experts and they say out of all the laptops & desktops they repair .. they see people bring HP's in the most. A lot of people recommended that I don't purchase a HP product, they are rigged to mess up after your warranty ends. For both of these laptops .. After about 6 weeks, that's when they messed up. Right after the warranty ended. It wasn't me that messed these laptops up .. It was the poor design that messed them up. I took extra great care of them, never dropped them, never spilled anything in them, never had a virus, kept everything updated etc. I've called and was told that it will cost about 300 bucks ea to replace the motherboard & get a new fan. There is no way I'm gonna pay $600 to repair these things. So more than likely, I'm gonna have to take someone to court. The GPU is seperated with a piece of rubber? C'mon! Now if 1 of your representatives can actually show they care about the consumers and fix these laptops free of charge. That'll be a step in the right direction.
Also I know it isn't just me. There are so many posts with the same problem as me.
Thank you for reading.
