I have an HP G72 laptop with the same issue I see posted all over this site, and many others online. I haven't been able to power it up for a year, after having intermittent power problems within a year of first purchase. Now it won't start at all. I've tried all the things I've seen listed on the message boards here, including:
1. Hard Rest
2. All the tips in the "computer won't start" publication
3. Bought a new replacement battery
4. Bought a replacement power cord
The only indication I have the the computer is only "mostly dead" is when I insert the power cord into the computer. I can see a super-short flicker of the white light on the power button. I've tried to only insert the cord partially (right to where the light quickly flickers), but I can't get it stay on for more than a momentary flash.
Is there a replacement power module for the computer? I'm not going to get anywhere with the hard-rest type of tips. It looks like this is a common problem for this model.
