I have an HP ENVY 17-207nr Notebook PC. The product number is A9P78UA#ABA. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
It worked perfectly for years, but recently I had problems with it so I decided to do a full restore and start from scratch about a month ago. It worked easily and over a period of weeks I got my programs back in.
I recently got a note to do some HP System Updates, including one to the Atheros LAN driver, HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection, HP QuickLaunch Software, HP Software Framework, and HP Wireless Audio. There was also a recommended update for Internet Wireless drivers and MyWiFi. (It's possible that this was the second set of restores after the reinstall and the other one worked)
I had no trouble downloading and installing all of these drivers, but when I turned the computer off I got a message that operations were in progress and that I should wait and that the computer would be turned off automatically after the operations were complete. I left it all night and it didn’t work. I started up in Safe Mode and did a system restore. I tried again only doing one installation. Same problem. Every time I turned the computer off it hung like this. I would have to shut it off and then do safe mode and system restore.
I now leave my computer on all the time. I have a working computer, but I can’t do Windows updates, or install or uninstall software that requires a reboot.
What should I do?
