Can't restore Windows 8 after trying Windows 10 preview.

I saw an opportunity to try the Windows 10 technical preview. So I loaded it onto my Envy TS 15. The OS did not see my audio and after trying a bunch of stuff, still no results. As this was not my only computer I decided to just run the HP rescue disk I had ordered. This was a USB drive and I found a place on the Windows technical preview page that indicated it would allow me to restore my original OS. I inserted the USB drive and the system churned along, reformatted my hard drive, and then crapped out. I get a log file with

 ChkErrBB.CMD : Detect some errr during PININST_BBV.

The next line :Check c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log.

Next line : or, check c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootMerge.log

All I get is the message: The recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons: Save Log, Details, Retry.

I have no idea why the USB failed to recover the original system, and the diagnostic UEFI runs but doesn't help any.

I welcome any suggestions. Pressing f11 doesn't work, and I don't know anything elst. When running the Windows 10 technical review, the drive looked OK, the requisite partitions were in place, but my guess is that the installation corrupted one of the important partitions or something. Can I just buy a new hard drive from HP that will replace this one?
