Hello. My laptop, an HP 15-D083NR Touch Notebook PC using Windows 8.1, suddenly froze yesterday and has been inoperable in normal conditions since mid afternoon. It operated normally before I went to work, and I came back home and discovered it was frozen. I thought it was a simple issue and restarted it, but found that it would not operate correctly. The freeze would occur shortly after logging in. I would click on my browser and it would not open, and when I attempted to open another program, the laptop would stop responding. The cursor would remain operable, but it could not interact with anything on the screen.
I have no expertise at all on computers but I searched far and wide to see if there were any issues even similar to mine. I opened up BIOS and performed the extensive system diagnostics on all of my hardware and twice on my hard drive; all the diagnostics passed. I booted my laptop in safe mode and found it would operate normally in that condition. I attempted a system restore to two days prior, but it failed with an error message telling me I needed to run a chkdsk command, and that is currently in progress.
I play one game on this laptop and use it for school and work purposes, but nothing incredibly taxing. I rarely download any programs onto it. The last piece of software I downloaded was a couple of days ago when I downloaded a Windows correction that was preventing me from using the touch screen aspect of my laptop. I use Kaspersky as my anti-virus program and ran scans to ensure that there wasn't a problem on that front.
I would greatly appreciate any help that can be provided.
