G72 Notebook Black Screen after Startup

So my G72 Notebook PC will start up, LED lights turn on, fans run, display shows but once we reach the page where the user login should be- the screen goes black and all I see is the mouse.  Any way to fix this? Not exactly sure what triggered it.
