Hello,
Windows 7 isn't starting on my hp 2000-299 home premium notebook. When I push power button it will say "starting windows" on the screen' then instead of going to the screen where the user logs into windows..it flashes quickly to what looks like a bios screen, then goes to a black screen where I get the following options: launch start up repair or start windows normally. Start up repair cannot fix the problem automatically so the HP recovery manager pops up.
This is the problem signature start up repair gives me-
1&2) 6.1.7600.16385
3) unknown
4) 21200152
5) AutoFailOver
6) 14
7) NoRootCause
I have tried restoring the system to an earlier date and performed a hard reset. Both of which made no change. Also did a hard disk test, start up test, and run-in test, all passed.
The last time it was working I was uninstalling antivirus software. Was prompted to restart to complete uninstall, clicked restart now, and that was it. Windows would not start after that.
To add insult to injury, my (toshiba) back up external hard drive decided to stop working also. No computer will recognize it. I am a photographer and all of my work is on this laptop, so I am saving factory reset as a very last resort.
My only lead so far is that it could be a problem with the instruction sent from the bios to a hardware component?
Like an incompatible device driver. How would I find this out? How would I know which updated firmware to install?
Any and all advice for troubleshooting would be so greatly appreciated! Thank you.
Best,
Melissa
