Hi,
I am running a HP Pavilion dv6-2113sa on Windows 7 64 bit.
Product number : WB329EA#ABU
It's from the UK and 3.5 years old.
Admittedly the battery has died, and it needs a new one, but I always run the laptop from the mains.
On Tuesday (07/01/2014 (2 days ago)), I was using the computer as normal with no problems at all and playing Football Manager 2013 as per usual and suddenly, I heard a "click" sound coming from the right side of the laptop. The computer then froze and gave me the blue screen error page. Since then, I have continuously received the blue screen for simple tasks like loading Firefox to access forums, or when using Windows Explorer to access files.
I backed up all my files. Disk clean up using CCleaner, disk degragment - no fix. The computer then took a turn for the worse by starting to display "PXE-E61: Media Test Failure" screen upon start up. It's very hit and miss. One time it may show this media test failure screen, another time it will load to windows.
So I reformatted the HDD thinking this should erase all problems however, even after reformatting, I am still getting the "PXE-E61: Media Test Failure", and if I do get into windows, after a short while peforming basic tasks, I'll hear the "click" diagnostic tone, freeze and blue screen.
RE the beep tones: I'm not getting beeps, but more of a "click", like the sound of an old HDD when it would be used.
I've been reading on some other HP threads to look for C:/WINDOWS/Minidump - however, I cannot find this folder - perhaps because I reformatted?
I've also read on another website that perhaps the HDD is past it's time and needs replacing.
Any suggestions on what else I can do to try and fix the laptop?
If I need to replace the HDD (and battery whilst I'm at it) - any idea of costs compared to buying a new Laptop?
My mate told me that HP laptops generally have a shelf life between 3-4 years and I fall right in that category so perhaps it is time for an upgrade although I see now point in buying a new laptop if new parts can lead to a long term fix.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
