HP log in no longer works - but finger print scan does

I have HP Envy TouchSmart Laptop purchased 2013.

using windows 8.1

I have a log in set up to start up. I had also set up a finger print scan I use both often.  All worked fine until today.  My password is no longer recognized.  I cannot figure out how to fix this.  When I could not type in my password, I was able to use my finger print.  I logged off and then retired typing in my password and it says I'm not using the correct password. But I am. I am not sure what to think.   ANy sugestions. I type the passwaord in daily.   This just started today.
