I have a hp elitebook 6950p. I hadn't turned it on in about a month due to illness and yesterday I started it up, however when it finally (after approx. 1hr) loaded, whenever I double clicked on an icon on the desktop the whole thing froze and the background went a white colour, but I could see the icons underneath, it was almost like fog. I had to hold down the power button to turn off. Then when I rebooted, I got to the desktop again and clicked the start menu but that froze resulting in me holding the power button again.
I have since tried a safe mode start up with a system restore, that hasn't worked and now when I turn it on, if I start windows normally, it keeps checking disk but completes it the starts again, it's almost as if it's stuck on this cycle. I can click any button to stop it checking disk but I get to the desktop and it freezes the minute I click anything. This morning, after reading lots of these forums, I have pressed F2 and ran a start up test. The first 2 tests passed however the start dst test failed. Please help me? I am pregnant and very upset that this has broken. Can I fix it myself? Also, can I get my photos off? I have my wedding photos on there and all the pictures of my other little girl since birth. I know I should've backed it up, trust me, I am kicking myself over this now. I really need some clever person to help me here.
