Hi ALl,

sorry for repost, double-checked and I may have posted in the wrong section originally, didnt want to delete that one in case others were following it, so just reposting here in what is hopefully the correct section. Admins can feel free to edit/remove as needed, sorry! thanks!

I have a dv7-4273us, product number:XZ295UA#ABA. Bought July 11th or 15th, 2011.

Current Problem:

On saturday 16th Aug. 2014, i visited a friend's house to download far cry 1,2, 3 and the DLC via steam. We left my computer downloading and went out. On our return 2 hrs later, when i tried to bring it out of hibernation mode, it did not boot and the caps lock light kept blinking once, indicating a CPU failure according to the error code log on this site.

Troubleshooting performed:

I checked the plug and discovered that the plug light was red, so I switched plug outlets, and the 2nd which made it glow white.

Connected to external monitor, no dice.

noticed that the hdd light on the right hand side glows red, so tried the hard reset - Removed battery and tried to boot with just the plug connected, it came on but same thing happened - caps lock light blinks once indicating cpu failure.

Previous problems:

Up until that day, the only problem I had with the computer was that when in full screen mode, sometimes the screen would turn light blue and I wouldnt be unable to access anything. I would have to either put it to sleep to bring it out of this or restart.

My Questions:

1) Could the downloading have hurt the CPU?

1b) If I ran out of har drive space for the download would that have made the cpu fail?

2) Could the graphics problem I had been experiencing be the cause of the cpu failure?

2b) If I replace the grpahics card would the cpu regain functionality?

3) Is there anyway to get the laptop working again without buying a new CPU?

4) i usually have my computer plugged into a surge protector but when I visited my friend it was plugged firectly into the wall, he suggested that the computer overheated. Is he correct?

4b) Though the blinks dont say, could anything else have been damaged?

5) Is it just better to buy a new computer and forget fixing this one? I cant afford it but I'll just ask in case.

Thanks in advance for all your help, much appreciated!

Note: I'm not in the US, I'm in Barbados, so i dont have access to online services such as amazon - they often dont ship here, and I wont be able to get my computer to any physical locations in the US for repair.
