I'm trying to help an elderly friend who regularly puts her laptop to sleep without a problem just by closing the lid. Running Windows 7 Home Premium. I've looked all over for results and am asking the community for any suggestions.
Trying to wake it up by pressing any key has not worked. The Caps lock light is in a slow, steady blink mode just like my laptop (also an HP) does when it is asleep. The power light is on and the battery light is on as is the wi fi light is orange because she is usually hard wired into her ISP/modem. Which by the way was disconected while the laptop was asleep/hibernate. She forgot to pay the bill. I add this because it is the only thing all the other solutions on the web to this type of problem did not have in common. Is it possible her ISP sent a zap down the wire when they discontinued service? I've worked for a different major ISP and never heard of that happening. Just throwing that thought out there.
First thing I did was remove the wireless mouse USB. Everything else is at her house so that was the only thing to remove.
So far I've done a Cold shut down by pressing the power button for 5 seconds, pulled the power cord out and the battery. Pressed the power button for 15 seconds with out the battery and power cord in. Held the power button while plugging the power in with out battery in. I saw on another post here to remove a memory module. I've pulled one out and returned it to it's slot.
When pressing power button normally. The power light comes on. The DVD drive spins a little, Just a little, not like normal. The fan spins, But there is no hard drive activity and the wifi light is on and the Caps Lock blinks slow, but steady, (not as if there was an error code). The laptop also gets warm.
I'm stumped. I can usually resolve issues on my own or with some research, but I've never seen one NOT wake up after power and battery were removed. Thanks for you time.
