bios update , system failure

A few weeks ago, on switching on my hp mini 110-3602tu, the loading data said that it is required to update the BiOS software application. According to the technicians, the hard disc was zapped n needed to be changed. But as of now, recently the attempt to switch on the net book has failed and it is shut down since almost a month.i need some important data fom hard disk is there anyway i can retrive that ??
