HP 2000 - 2c29WM stuck in recovery

I have an HP - 2c29WM which is stuck in a loop showing the HP recovery is collecting data - progress 0%. Have seen one error listed as SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (NETIO.SYS), from a previous attempt to boot back into Win8  x64.

I pulled the drive to attempt to recover my data before trying system repair and system recovery, and in a usb caddy attached to my W8 x64 desktop, the drive shows two partitions, boot and recovery, and says the boot section (main part of the drive) can not be accessed. I can read files on the recovery partition, and valid drive letters. No Windows errors saying the drive needs partitioned. I resigned to having lost my data, and decided to reset it back to "as new".

I attempted both recovery and repair, and it fails saying no restore points can be found, and fails on repair, saying drive write failed.

Yet it passes all the short tests, and am currently running the long tests, and it's passing all checks there as well. Have one hour 20 minutes left on the Hard Disk Long DST.

Hard drive is a Hitachi HGST 500Gb, with a manufacture date of 6/22/13.

Any hope here?
