Compaq CQ58 recovery failure - Windows 8

I am trying to save my CQ58 notebook (Product ID is C2b16ea#abu) and cannot get it working using either the recovery partition nor recovery media. There was a fault with the hard disk - so I bought a new one (same spec) and every time I attempt an install with the HP recovery media I get to the end of the process - W8 then goes through the routine of installing drivers etc, reboots and then stops completely on a blank screen. It remains inactive, stalled on the blank screen, unless I press ENTER and then the Q logo and six swirling dots appear and then, sadly, as W8 starts-up a message appears to the effect that Windows has encountered a fatal error and needs to reboot. This is the situation I have arrived at despite trying to install 6 times now - every time Windows 8 cannot start and the same error message appears. HP's testing tools indicate that there are no problems with the notebook hardware so, as a last resort, I want to try and update the BIOS (currently on F13) to see if this remedies the start-up issues. I will need to make a boot-able BIOS update DVD and was wondering if anyone had any instructions on how to do this? All advice appreciated. Thank in advance. Steven N.B. The HP recovery media I am using is brand new - bought 2 weeks ago.
