Hi
I am using an hp laptop; model G42-303DX, about 3 years old.
I am running it directlyon AC using the AC adaptor (without the battery in place) since a year, as the battery has to be replaced. It is fine all these months, but the problem now is the laptop would not turn ON sometimes.
Generally I use the laptop for 3-5 hours in the night. Now, the next day morning, when I try to switch it ON, the laptop doesn’t turn ON at all. The charging LED light on the laptop, near the charging port, flashes (white) for 4-5 seconds and then goes off completely. Even if I disconnect the AC charger and plug it again, the white light flashes again for 4-5 seconds and goes off. (No other lights also flash – wifi, caps lock). Later, when I come back from the office in the evening and turn it ON again, it starts absolutely fine. Again the same problem repeats (doesn’t start) the next day morning and strangely it would start fine in the evening. This is has been happening since 3 weeks.
The pattern I observed is that – after using the laptop for once and turning it off, it is not starting when turned ON immediately. It is requiring a rest for a minimum of 4-5 hours. After that, it starts and works. The cycle repeats with every single usage. Sometimes, the break it requires is large. I observed once that after using it for about 12-15 hours during the weekend, the next day it did not start at all the whole day. It got switched ON the next day to that.
When it doesn’t start, I tried options like, disconnecting the AC power source (remember there is no battery in place) and press and hold the power button for 30-40seconds. And connect the power source and turn it ON. It didn’t help.
Again, I connected AC adaptor, and press the power button of the laptop before the white light (charging light LED) went off. It started once. Later I tried the same. But this time, it did not turn ON. It started showing a particular pattern of charging light LED display– White, Red…Red, White and then OFF… all this in 3-4seconds.This happened one day.
I am not able to figure out what the exact problem is with --- SMPS, CMOS battery, mother board?
Please help!
(I would also like to tell you that my battery needs to be replaced since a year. I noticed that the laptop is not turning ON with the dead battery in its slot, and hence I removed the battery completely and have been running the laptop with AC power directly since then.)
