I have been given a used HP Pavilion DV6-2150ev laptop. The laptop worked flawlessly for some months but now it function no more. When pressing the power button it only goes as fas as a black screen with a warning about the system cooling fan and the message "Cooling Fan (902)". The fan is not dead. Not only can I hear it working inside the laptop, but I also disassembled the the machine and powered it (the fan) from an external power supply and it spins just right. After searching the forums here, I found many posts linking the issue with a BIOS failure. Unfortunately I have no way to update the BIOS, as advised in the forums and elsewhere, because the boot process freezes in that screen.
