HP Pavilion DM4 1160us - Blue Screen with light rays from above

HP Pavilion DM4 1160us running Windows 7 Home Edition

I was logged off system and upon logging back in, received spinning cursor that never completed log in.  Had to force power off.  When starting system, received option to 1)attempt recovery or 2)start as normal (same results for both).  Appeared to be starting like normal - then a progress bar showing "Loading Files" - followed by blue screen (and big arrow cursor) - quick flash of a command window (too fast to read).  The hard disk activity light was on for a few seconds, flickered a few times, then went off.  Nothing would ever happen after that and the blue screen stayed.

I ran both boot diagnostic HD tests - it failed on the extended test.  I removed the original Toshiba MK5056GSY drive and replaced with a 32 GB drive my old Dell Inspiron came with, ran boot setup of a new OS and the HP is working fine (minus the HP drivers).

I have not yet tested the "failed" drive but will be when I get an external drive enclosure.  It lasted exactly 3 years.

I would like to replace the drive with a WD7500BPKT drive which is 750 GB.

My question is "will the computer/mother board/BIOS handle the bigger drive?"
