I purchased the notebook around 3 months ago. It worked fine until the other morning after a windows update(8.1 recently installed). I went to go online and the cpu freezes, then a driver power state failure. It attempts to restart, but only a black screen and blinking caps lock button.
I release the battery, replace it, then turn the cpu on. It now turns on, starts to load windows, mouse cursor freezes, then another blue screen error (dpc watchdog violation). Same deal, the cpu won't restart. I go through this process multiple times with the same result.
Now I call HP. They have me do a recovery. Result- restoration incomplete. Another tech has me perform extensive hard disk and memory tests, as well as a start up test. All tests pass. Then they have me perform a system reset.
Everything appeared to reset as if I'd just bought the cpu. No such luck. Here are the resulting issues.
-Windows activation failed screen appears
-acting sluggish, getting many (program not responding) messages
-C drive appears to have way to much space used -79.9gb total, 45.2 used, 34.7 free !
-the C/windows folder alone has 18.6gb
I lost all of my files, so how is this possible. Any help is greatly appreciated, HP seems to refuse the fact that possibly the cpu is defective so as not to replace it, which is what I feel needs to happen.
