I have an HP G62-219WM laptop that I purchased several years ago (Early 2012 I think). The laptop crashed more than a year ago due to a motherboard failure, and sat on a shelf until late October of last year when I purchased a new motherboard. For about 2 and a half months, the laptop worked fine, but after that, It began exhibiting some quirks. The screen would go blank if left on for prolonged periods (especially if it got hot) and wouldn’t come back on unless I force-restarted it.
Shortly after I noticed this, it began having some trouble booting up as well. Sometimes it would freeze at the BIOS, other times it would freeze at the Windows “loading Icon”, and other times it would freeze on the windows welcome Screen. Starting out this happened only about one time for every dozen or so times that I started the laptop. Honestly I didn’t think much of it, until it started happening more and more often. Then, about a month ago, I powered the laptop down after short duration of use and discovered the next day that it wouldn’t come on at all.
Currently the fans come on, the hard drive spins up, and the LEDs of the keyboard start flashing error BLINK codes. I’ve identified two such codes: MEMORY, and PROCESSOR. I fixed the memory error (the memory-chips weren’t all the way in their slots) but the PROCESSOR Error still eludes me. From the research online, I found dozens of people with the same problem, and have found several possible causes, including a manufacturer defect of air-bubbles in the soldering points under the CPU. Most people said to try to overheat the laptop to make the solder expand for a short duration and make the connection. I attempted this but alas it did not work for me. In fact, I recently discovered that if I leave the laptop to cool to room temperature (cool to the touch) I can get it to boot on ONCE (then it has to sit for a good hour or so before it will boot up again), but regardless of how long it sits, I can never get it to boot past the BIOS, to the OS. Yesterday I let it sit to see if it loaded the OS after a while, but after a good 20 hours of just sitting there, the OS had still failed to load.
On the two times I have gotten into the BIOS, I have run the quick, and comprehensive HP system “MEMORY” and “HARDDRIVE” Tests, and both have come back as “PASSED”.
The methods of troubleshooting that I have currently tried are as follows (not necessarily in this order):
- Physically check the hardware component connections (I’ve done this numerous times)
- Performed a Hard-Reset (Numerous Times)
- Ran BIOS Memory and Hard Drive Diagnostic tests
- Ran System Memory and Hard Drive Diagnostic tests
- Replaced KTS motherboard battery
- Powered on with/without Battery
- Powered on with/without Harddrive
- Powered on with/without Memory
- Powered on with/without External Monitor
- Changed Power Cords
- Replaced Thermal Paste on HeatSink
- Replaced Thermal Paste on Processor
I really don’t know that much about computers, and am way out of my league here. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. I’m a writer, and this Laptop (when it works) is one of my biggest assets and I don’t currently have the funds to purchase a new laptop.
