I bought and registered my HP Spectre on September 1, 2017, so I've had it for 15 months.  Last night while I was using it, it just shut off with no warning.  I had only been using it 5 minutes at most after no use all day.  It did not make a noise when it shut off.  It was not hot.  When I tried to turn it back on, a little white light flashes on the right side where the power cord goes in, but that's it.  We let it sit all night and this morning, same thing.  I'm pretty sick over this and don't know what to do.  It was a $1,000 machine and has been used very lightly.  Can someone please help.  I assume my warranty is past.

Plugged into power adapter. Press power button. Light next to button comes on. No fan or hard drive running. Screen blank with no signs of power. This happened as it rebooted after Windows update was downloaded and installed. Running fine before update.

  • 12/06/18--09:28: BIOS admin reset
  • I have a HP Envy 15-q493cl. I put an admin password on the bios 2 years ago and am unable to remember the password. Thankfully I remember my boot password. When doing the password wrong 3 times this is the code I get. I looked on the web to find the backdoor/default password but had no success with any of those. I am trying to update my bios is the reason.

    Code: i 54945440

I remove the keyboard of my laptop to see if i can install a backlit keyboard and remove dusts from inside. When i put the laptop back together again, the screen stayed black.

The power light would start as well as the fun inside for a second then would turn off (happens 3-5 times). After this, the power light would stay and the fun would spin very fast and the capslock light would blink but the screen stays black

The pattern of the capslock light blink is - single blink(3 times) and then 5 fast blinks(1 time)

And the orange light on the power button side would light up too

    Thank you

MY HP ELITEBOOK 8460 WHEN I PLUG IT IN IT BY PASS THE SWITCH AND TURNED ON BY IT SELF, I ALREADY REPAIRED AND CLEANED THE POWER SWITCH AND STILL THE SAME, PLUG THE ADAPTOR AND ON ALREADY. BASICALLY WHEN IT PLUG IN, THE POWER SHOULD NOT BE BY PASSING THE SWITCH

I have opened up a support case with HP about this, but wanted to post here also in case anyone else is experiencing the same issues.  Our organization have hundreds of HP laptops, desktops, servers, SAN's, etc.  We have nearly 100 ProBook 455 G4 laptops, all the same model - Z1Z77UT#ABA - purchased over the course of a year or so.  In the past few weeks, we have been receiving compaints from numerous users about their machines turning off randomly on them.  We have verified this behavior in nearly 2 dozen machines.  Specifically, the laptop will turn off (not following the normal shutdown sequence, but simple turn off), then will reboot again on it's own.  This behavior happens both when the laptop is plugged in to an AC power source, and also when it is on battery power (with a full charge).  It might happen several times in one day, then not happen again for a week or more.  All of the laptops are running WIndows 10 Enterprise, either version 1703, 1709 or 1803.  We have also seen this happen while imaging a laptop (OS was not yet fully installed), so we have strong reason to believe that this is not a software issue.  We have observed that the laptops are not warm to the touch when this occurs, and have run BIOS system checks fro both RAM and HD, both coming back ok.  We have upgrade some laptops to the latest BIOS release from the HP site (01.24 Rev A).  I am hoping to hear back from HP soon, but again, just wanted to post this in case anyone else was having the same issue.  Coincidentally, we have not experienced this issue with any other model of laptop or desktop, covering thousands of HP devices, going back nearly 15 years.
